1. Introduction

Simpleread (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a platform that allows users to upload and read their ebooks, take notes, and customize their reading experience. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect user information. Simpleread is operated by Întreprindere Individuală (ÎI) Gîscă Artur, a registered business in Moldova.

2. Data Collection and Usage

2.1 Personal Information Collected

We collect limited personal information necessary to provide Simpleread’s features. The following data is stored and used as required for account functionality:

  • Email Address: Used for account creation and login. Simpleread also supports Google, Facebook, and Apple logins, where the user’s email may be shared with us from these providers.
  • User Library and Preferences: Information like added books, categories, settings, and preferences. Examples of settings include font size, font style, and other customization options.
  • User Library for Recommendations: If users request book recommendations, their library data is temporarily shared with the OpenAI API to generate suggestions.

2.2 Data Storage and Processing

  • Firebase Database and Storage: User data (including library contents and settings) is stored in Firebase Database, and books and cover images are stored in Firebase Storage.
  • Translation Feature (Google Translate API): Users can select text from ebooks to translate into other languages. Selected text is temporarily sent to the Google Translate API solely to provide translation.
  • Netlify Analytics (potential future use): Currently, we do not use cookies or tracking technologies. If analytics become necessary, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.

3. Disclosure to Third Parties

Simpleread does not sell or share personal information. However, limited user data is disclosed to third-party services strictly to support platform functionality:

  • Firebase: For secure data storage and infrastructure.
  • Google Translate API: For translation requests, where selected text is sent temporarily to facilitate translation.
  • OpenAI API: For generating book recommendations based on users’ libraries.
  • Netlify: For hosting the Simpleread website.
  • Google Workspace: Used for managing internal operations, including communication, storage, and document management.

All third parties adhere to data privacy standards in compliance with GDPR and other relevant laws.

4. User Rights and Data Management

  • Account Management: Users can add, edit, and delete books within their library. Account deletion is also available in settings, and all associated data is permanently deleted when an account is deleted.
  • Contact for Privacy Requests: Users may reach us at privacy@simpleread.app to exercise data-related rights or inquire about our practices.

5. Data Security

We utilize Firebase for secure storage and authentication, with email verification required. User data is protected in accordance with industry standards, though users should secure their accounts by safeguarding their email.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Simpleread does not currently use cookies. If this changes, we will notify users and update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

7. Privacy Policy Updates

Users can access the current privacy policy at simpleread.app/privacy-policy. We expect to update this policy regularly during Simpleread’s initial release period, with longer intervals as the platform matures.

8. Supervisory Authority

Simpleread does not operate under a specific supervisory authority for privacy matters. However, we comply with GDPR and other international standards to ensure responsible data handling.
